I would like to welcome you to the Superintendent's Comments page on Sebeka School District's website. Throughout the school year, I write articles for the local paper about information of events taking place or other relevant information during the school year. Sebeka School District's website provides valuable information and is very easy to navigate for you as parents, guardians, grandparents and students looking at what Sebeka School District has to offer our students. In the next column you can read about all the items covered on our school's web site. If you have any questions or concerns about information presented on the website, please don't hesitate to contact myself, or the Principal Amie Westberg for clarification.
On August 8, 2017 the taxpayers of Sebeka School District approved a 12.5 million dollar bond referendum for new additions and renovations. The referendum will replace thirteen high school classrooms, replace the steam heating system with hot water boilers, the HVAC will be replaced in several additions of our buildings, and the older building will be torn down and replaced by a commons, larger gym/performance area, offices, locker rooms and a fitness center. Work will begin in June of 2018 for the first phase building classrooms onto the northeast side of our campus with a completion date in May of 2019. The summer of 2019 the older additions of 1927 and 1937 will be torn down with work completed over the following year. Visit our school's website to stay abreast on the progress taking place.
I want to take this opportunity to continue thanking the patrons of Sebeka School District for their continued support for our students, for our staff, and all the educational, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs offered at Sebeka Schools.

Welcome to Our School
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Sebeka School District. In 2006, I accepted the position as Superintendent of Schools and have found Sebeka Staff and Sebeka’s Community to be very supportive and extremely proud of their school and of their students’ accomplishments. During my tenure, like many rural schools, we have had numerous years with strong athletic programs and very strong academic programs. I am very proud to recognize our students who years ago won back to back State Championships with our school’s Knowledge Bowl Teams. Over my tenure we have made it to state tournaments in Football, Volleyball, Girls and Boys Basketball, Baseball, Softball and Individuals competing in Wrestling.
Sebeka School is a rural school district in northcentral Minnesota with over 500 students in Pre-school through 12th grade located in one building. We have 45 certified teachers, Office and Business Staff, 15 paraprofessionals, Food Service and Custodial Departments for a total of 90 employees. The school also has its own Transportation Department with 10 bus routes to transport our rural student population. Even though we exist in a smaller rural school environment as a two section school, students have many opportunities to become involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Athletic activities include Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Track, Baseball, Softball, and Golf. For students looking for other interests there are co-curricular activities including, Honor Society, Student Council, BPA, FFA, FCCLA, Skills USA, Speech, Concert Band, Pep Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Vocal Choir and Ensembles, All School Plays as well as One-Act Plays. We highly encourage connections in our school other than attending academic classes. If students want to get involved, they have all the opportunities to do so.
Sebeka Elementary provides an excellent opportunity for children to learn. Our teacher/student ratio is 17 to 1 with separate specialists teaching the Art, Physical Education, Music, and Media Technology. We use the latest research proven curriculum for Reading, Math, and Science instruction and have been recognized as a celebration eligible school in past years. Our Pre-School/School Readiness programs are strongly supported by our community and financially supported by our School Board. With excellent teachers and support staff, we have established one of the strongest pre-school programs in the region.
For a school district of over five hundred students, we also provide the opportunity for students who are college bound to take over 50 college credits through College In the High Schools classes offered on campus and practically any on-line College courses in areas of students' interests. The Business, Agricultural, Family and Consumer Science, Industrial Technology classes and many electives also provide the foundation and exposure for many areas of interest in the Technical/Vocational Career areas of study.
It's exciting to think of all the possibilities that exist for students attending Sebeka School. We are also a Quality Compensation School with a priority on developing teachers as leaders running PLC groups and professional development training with the goal of attaining higher levels of students engagement and students achievement. The tax payers of our school district have voted in favor of an operating referendum which has helped us upgrade our facilities and internal infrastructure. With this support we have also had the opportunity to purchase the latest technology for our teachers and students to use and at the same time being able to maintain a solid district fund balance.
As you read this column, you are able to understand why I am proud of the opportunity I have serving as the Superintendent of Sebeka School District. This is a great place to work and a great atmosphere exists for children to learn and grow!
