Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
I hope this message finds you well, and welcome to the Superintendent’s Comments page!
It is my honor to extend a warm welcome to all of our students, families, and staff members. I’m extremely grateful you have chosen Sebeka Public School for your child’s education. Sebeka has been my home for the past 29 years—27 of those as the band director, and now I’m beginning my 30th year in education and my third year as superintendent. It’s a role I take on with great pride and deep commitment to our community.
First and foremost, I want to express my sincere appreciation to our dedicated students, talented staff, and supportive families. Your energy, involvement, and belief in the power of education help define the strong sense of unity that makes Sebeka such a special place to learn and grow.
We are proud to build the elements of our strategic plan by embracing and promoting our district-wide values through Trojan PRIDE—Prepaired, Respectful, Involved, Determined, and Excellent. These values are not just words on a wall; they are the guiding principles that shape our school culture and student success.

Additionally, we are proud to share our vision through the Portrait of a Trojan—a roadmap for what we want every Sebeka student to gain as learners at our school. Through academic challenge, character development, and community engagement, we are preparing students to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, adaptive learners, engaged collaborators, and innovative contributors who are ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.
In 2023, Sebeka Public School was honored to receive the “School of Excellence” designation from the Minnesota Elementary Principals Association and in 2024 our early childhood program earned the top rating of Four-Star Parent Aware! These recognitions reflect not only our academic and extracurricular success, but also the care, effort, and high standards embraced by our entire school community. From classroom achievements to music, sports, and student leadership, our Trojans continue to represent us with distinction.
I also want to sincerely thank our incredible community. Your support—whether through volunteering, cheering on our students at events, or participating in school initiatives—strengthens every part of our mission. We truly are better together, and your involvement in Team Sebeka plays a key role in our success!
As we look ahead, we remain focused on our commitment to belonging, believing, and becoming. We understand challenges may arise, but with the strong values of our strategic plan that includes Trojan PRIDE, a clear vision through our Portrait of a Trojan, and the support of our families and community, I’m confident we will continue to move forward with purpose and progress.
Please stay connected by visiting our school website regularly for news, updates, and upcoming events. We welcome your questions, feedback, and ideas—they help us grow and improve. Thank you again for your continued support. Together, let’s inspire and empower every Trojan to reach their full potential. Belong. Believe. Become.
Best Wishes,
Dave Kerkvliet “Mr.K.”
