Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
I hope this message finds you well, and welcome to the Superintendent’s Comments page!
It is my honor to extend a warm welcome to all of our students, families, staff, and community members. Thank you for choosing Sebeka Public School and for trusting us with your child’s education. Sebeka has been my home for the past 30 years. (27 of those as the band director) and I am now beginning my 31st year in education and my fourth year as superintendent. It is a role I continue to take on with great pride, gratitude, and commitment to our students, families, staff, and community.
There are many great things happening in our school district. We continue to build on the strong foundation of our strategic plan by focusing on student achievement, school culture, parent and community engagement, and responsible planning for our future. At the heart of this work is Trojan PRIDE: Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Determined, and Excellent. These values are more than words; they guide how we learn, lead, serve, and support one another every day.
We are also proud to continue promoting our Portrait of a Trojan, which reflects the skills and character traits we want every Sebeka graduate to carry with them. Through academic learning, career exploration, leadership opportunities, activities, athletics, fine arts, and community involvement, we are preparing students to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, adaptive learners, engaged collaborators, and innovative contributors.

Sebeka Public School has much to celebrate. In 2023, we were honored to receive the “School of Excellence” designation from the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association, and in 2024, our early childhood program earned the top Four-Star Parent Aware rating. Most recently in 2026, we received a “Gold Star” award from MESPA for our Trojan Pathways program. These recognitions reflect the outstanding work of our students, staff, families, and community.
We are also excited about the continued growth of Trojan Pathways and career-connected learning opportunities for students. These programs help students explore future careers, build real-world skills, and connect their education to meaningful goals beyond graduation. In addition, our work with academic supports, literacy instruction, student services, technology, and school safety continues to strengthen the overall student experience.
Our district has also taken important steps forward through projects and initiatives that support long-term success. From our solar energy project and facility improvements to expanded learning opportunities such as 820online, we are working hard to be innovative, responsible, and responsive to the needs of students and families.
Most importantly, the greatest thing happening in our district is the daily work taking place in our classrooms, hallways, activities, and community. Our students continue to grow, achieve, lead, and represent Sebeka with pride. Our staff continues to go above and beyond to support students. Our families and community continue to show up, volunteer, encourage, and invest in Team Sebeka.
As we look ahead, we remain focused on belonging, believing, and becoming. We know challenges will arise, but with our strong values, clear vision, dedicated staff, supportive families, and outstanding students, I am confident Sebeka Public School will continue moving forward with purpose and pride.
Please stay connected by visiting our school website regularly for news, updates, and upcoming events. We welcome your questions, feedback, and ideas because they help us continue to grow and improve.
Thank you again for your continued support of Sebeka Public School. Together, we will continue to inspire and empower every Trojan to reach their full potential.
Belong. Believe. Become.
Best Wishes,
Dave Kerkvliet “Mr.K.”
Superintendent
